POUNAMU vineyards and wines come from an independent family company. Our team consists of a group of experienced winegrowers who are crazy about growing grapes. And at the head of the winemaking team is the amazingly talented Eveline Fraser. A remarkable personality with exceptional attention to detail and extraordinary senses. The wines are grown in specially selected locations in the Marlborough Valley, New Zealand's largest wine region.

Behind the vineyards rise the mighty Southern Alps. This mountain range forms the backbone of the South Island. This mountainous terrain helps protect our valley from strong ocean winds. Over time, alluvial deposits - terraces of stony, free-draining soils - were formed here, which are suitable for growing grapes. These mountains supply our aquifers with exceptionally clean water every day.

During the ripening period (December - April) the days are hot in Marlborough, but at night the ocean breeze significantly cools the atmosphere. This extreme diurnal temperature change means our grapes produce intense flavor throughout the day, but thanks to cool nighttime conditions we are able to preserve and maintain acidity. It is this expression - this sense of place - that you can find in POUNAMU wines.
